July 2025 Featured Artist - Al Forgacz

I have been interested in art since I was a child. My teachers encouraged me to study art and pursue it as my career. I was sure that it was not the best career choice since there were so many artists, and so very few of them successful. After serving in the military, I became a computer programmer. I worked at the same company for many years, retiring in 2009.

I married my wife, Bobbie, in 1970. We both enjoyed crafting and art. We used one room in our four room apartment as a studio. The floor was covered in newspapers and, in the middle, was a pair of easels. That lasted until 1974 when we converted that room to a nursery.

My wife and I both retired our paints and brushes to raise a family. I didn’t return to art until after retirement. I painted in watercolor mostly and was producing a painting a day. They weren’t very good paintings. Eventually, I became more deliberate in my technique and I think I improved. I found other art mediums and decided that I liked acrylic the best.
