2. Earth Day Update
Thank you for your Earth Day donations. Over 40 prizes, including original paintings of endangered species, were donated, and the winners loved them. Many thanks to Nancy Truman and her team for a well-organized and fun event, and to all the volunteers and donors who worked to make it a success.
3. Featured Artist of the Month Special Drawing
If you have an interest in being the Featured Artist of the Month, the September 2023 slot is open! Please fill out a slip with your name, phone number, and e-mail address, and drop it off in the featured artist box in the art studio. A drawing will be held at the June General Membership Meeting.
On average the feature wall holds approximately ten to twelve 11x14 paintings, and you'll need three or four more for the front window. All 1/2 inch canvases should be properly wired and framed, and unframed canvases 1-3/8 inch should have all sides finished with no staples showing.
Note: If you were a Featured Artist within the last 2 years, you do not qualify.
If you have any questions, contact Bobbie Forgacz at forgaczb@gmail.com.
4. Art in Bloom
The Art in Bloom Show will take place this year on Sept. 9-10. Entries for consideration should be sent to Jan Urbanic jmurbanic@aol.com by June 15, as the Avant Gardeners will meet later that month to make their selections. We look forward to your participation. Please include your name, photo of your artwork, title, size and price..
5. Art Party
The Art Party will be on Thursday, May 18 at 6:30 p.m. Contact Ann Rotunno at ann.rotunno@gmail.com if you would like to attend.
6. Happy Hour
Happy Hour will be Thursday, May 11 from 5-6 p.m. It will take place the second Thursday of every month. Come socialize with your fellow artists. Bring your own beverage and snack.
7. Wall Display /Bin Art
Letty Husson is stepping down from her position as Bin Art Chair, and we thank her for all the years she has wonderfully managed our bins. We are pleased to announce our new chair will be Jean Maloney. Thank you Jean.
A revised list of guidelines for both the monthly wall hanging and bin art is attached.
8. User Groups
The Modern Art/Abstract User Group will be meeting on Thursday, May 11 from 10-12 in the art studio. Bring your supplies: canvas/board/paper, your medium of choice, brushes, etc. Alex Mazzia and Jean Capraro will be painting in various styles of abstract/modern art. We can share ideas on an informal basis (with a little help for beginners to get started). Since it is non-representational art, we are on our own regarding design or color. In other words, there are no wrong answers.
The Digital Art User Group will meet on Wednesday, May 24 at 6:30 in the art studio. All are welcome to attend.
9. Housekeeping
We now have a phone at the main desk. Please familiarize yourself with it, so if there is an emergency, you can use iti quickly. Generally it is not meant for personal use. The phone number (843-949-4063) is written on the phone, but we do not expect to get incoming calls.
The Bulletin Board in the library corner is to provide a place to put requests from community residents for help with projects, i.e. framing, calligraphy projects, or poster making. It can also be used for announcements for art opportunities outside of Sun City.
