Hi Everyone!
Our Spring Art show was a smashing success! Thank you to all the volunteers who made it possible. The teamwork involved in providing an art show is very significant, and more than 80 volunteers pitched in to make it happen. Thank you! A special thanks to Cathy Smith who was at the helm.

Please read the newsletter! At the request of our members we limit the emails sent---so when we send them, they are chocked full of information. This is your main source of information for all of June! PLEASE READ IT!
Here goes!!
1. The Display Wall---This is really important. Please read! For the month of June, more than half of the pictures brought to be hung were incorrectly prepared. Yikes! The display-wall team even had to take three paintings home to repair them before hanging. That is asking too much of them! PLEASE follow these simple directions. Wire the painting correctly on the back. Written guidelines and a sample are in the front of the art room. All unframed canvases must at least 1 3/8 inches deep, and finished on all sides….no staples showing. We want our display wall to look beautiful!
Any member can display art---and it can be made anyplace….in your own backyard, in the studio, or on the banks of the Seine!
The new display wall will be hung on the Thursday before the First Saturday. There has been some confusion---but this is the timing—going forward. So, Pick-Up Day for your paintings is Wednesday, June 28. The art you would like displayed should be brought for Drop Off Day by 2 PM on Thursday, June 29. Please mark your calendar.
2. Art in Bloom. We are still taking entries for consideration for Art in Bloom, a collaborative show between the Avant Gardeners and All About Art which will be held Sept. 9 & 10. Here’s what you do. Email Jan at jmurbanic@aol.com, with a photo of your painting along with size, title and price. The deadline is June 15th. Suggested subjects include people, landscapes, still lifes, water scenes. No flowers please. The paintings should be 16x20 or larger. All entries will be reviewed and selected by Avant Gardeners on June 26. Applicants will be notified whether or not they were selected. Please send in an entry, and be part of the fun!
3. General Membership Meeting, June 21 at 1 PM in the Art Room. The guest speaker for this meeting will be Dominique Tuttle, Curator for the Gullah Gallery Museum. She will be highlighting Gullah cultural art and history. The meeting will start with this presentation followed by the business meeting. During the break before the business meeting, there will be a treat, and members will have an opportunity to meet the speaker, and ask questions. This is a wonderful chance to make a connection and learn about unique and important local culture.
During the business meeting there will be the drawing for September’s Featured Artist.
4. A Tag Sale! Mark your calendar for Wednesday, July 19. We’re going to have a Tag Sale. Maybe you’ve moved onto a new medium, or maybe you overbought! Bring your unwanted art supplies, paper, easels, and anything else in your art life for a sale in the Art Room. The people who bring the items will price them, and all proceeds will go toward a new overhead teacher’s mirror. We need nearly $3000. When the sale is over all unsold items must be picked up by the person who brought them. Watch for more information and flyers.
5. First Saturday Sales. Inside and outside the Art Room, every first Saturday, members can sell their art. It will be this coming Saturday June 3rd from 10 – noon. If you are interested in participating in the future, please contact Cynthia Byers at cjbyers@sc.rr.com.
6. Happy Hour is the second Thursday from 5 – 6 PM, and it’s every month! Bring your own beverage and a snack to share if you wish. It’s fun to hang out with other artists, chat, and get to know other members! Mark your calendar!
7. The Art Party—See the flyer below. The June Art Party is Thursday, June 15, and we will learn about the artist Damien Hirst. REMEMBER, IT IS MANDATORY TO REGISTER FOR THIS—DO NOT JUST SHOW UP!! It makes us sad to turn people away, but we have too. There is a limit to the number we can accommodate in the class. This is the only class that is not in the white books at the front of the room. To register you have to send an email. To register email Ann.Rotunno@gmail.com.
8. June Class Schedule- Please remember that it is always necessary to sign up for all classes….even the Genesis classes. No charge to participate in any of these groups, but you do need to sign up, and bring your own supplies!
10. Monitoring and Name Tags. Remember—when you sign up to be a room monitor, it’s important that you be there---or get a replacement. Questions about being an Art Room monitor? Contact the Monitor Chair, Lynn Nasal at scartmonitors@gmail.com
There are lots of nametags that have not been picked up. Please look in the orange basket behind the monitor-desk, if you have not yet gotten your name tag. It just may be there!
Thanks everyone! Have a happy and creative June. See you around the Art Room!
